A local guide to Columbus: for out-of-town wedding guests
If you’re in Columbus for a weekend wedding celebration or bridal shower, this quick guide is designed to help you experience the best of the neighborhood in one day. From cobblestone streets and local eats to unique attractions, consider this your curated cheat sheet to discovering what makes Columbus so special.
Where to stay
For a cozy, historic feel, the brick-lined neighborhood of Merion Village and German Village offers B&Bs and Airbnb options (like this one, just around the corner from The Century). Not to mention, many of them are walkable to nearby coffee shops, bars/restaurants and shopping. We might be a little biased — but The Century is tucked right in the heart of it all, and it’s one of the most charming venues in the city.
June through October is prime wedding season in Columbus, so it’s a good idea to make accommodations (and dining reservations) early.
Where to eat and drink
Speaking of dining, we’re bringing you a full day of eats. Starting with coffee, Jennings Java is a local favorite with a vibrant environment and plenty of seats to gather. Fox in the Snow offers legendary pastries. And midday, you must pop over to Brown Bag Deli for their famous club sandwich (right next door to Jeni’s Ice Cream for those who have a sweet tooth). If your evening is free, you can’t go wrong with Chapman’s Eat Market, Isla or Lindey's — just be sure to make a reservation ahead of time.
Things to do
Among the cobblestone streets, German Village is home to Schiller Park and the famous Book Loft, a 32-room bookstore. But you’re also a quick Uber ride away from the Short North Arts District, which is a great place to tour art galleries, local boutiques and murals. The Franklin Park Conservatory, COSI and Columbus Museum of Art are fun family-friendly places to explore.
